SubLunar is a progressive rock band from Poland who describe their music as atmospheric prog/post-rock, with occasional ventures into heavier stylistic territories. A Random Moment of Stillness, their second album, features six tracks that do just that, seamlessly flowing from one mood to another as dark, pensive passages give way to expansive, uplifting peaks. Stretched-out guitar lines, intricate drumming, and deep, resonant bass form the backbone of the tracks, while vocals add texture to the arrangements.
The band has said they are a sum of sounds, noise, time lapses, and their spare anxieties, which perfectly sums up the 42 minutes of A Random Moment of Stillness. From the pulsating, hypnotic opener “Bear With Me” to the cinematic build of the ten-minute closer “A Sun Blur,” there’s tension and intricacy in the music that excites but never overwhelms, striking a great balance. The album’s journey is both expansive and intimate which makes for a wining combination.
