Music That Takes Me Places

TOBI, STILL

Fixation on stillness has has shaped TOBi's life and songs. In an interview he explained that "To be still is to be centered and almost fixated in the current experience." Experiences like when he and his family first moved to Canada from Nigeria and lived in low income housing. "It was a two-bedroom and there was six of us in there and all the kids were in one room...I just remember it was small...but it was fine."

Still is an extremely personal album, but as Medium writes,'it never feels like we’re being voyeuristic. It’s not always easy, but TOBi invites us to share his experience, and that is a multiple and complex one. Tales of poverty, blackness, family, love and feeling shape a worldview that makes us want to understand.'
