Music That Takes Me Places

SÓLEY, WE SINK

Sóley, a member of the Icelandic band Seabear, has a beautiful, warm, and subtle voice that floats in an understated way. After years of singing in private, she grew comfortable with her voice and discovered her vocal skills, which shine on her debut album We Sink. Her singing recalls Emiliana Torrini, delicate yet distinct, and serves as the anchor for the record’s atmospheric pull.

We Sink feels less like a set of thirteen songs and more like a journey through a dark, restrained dreamscape. With minimal instrumentation and carefully placed details, a piano line here, a handclap or finger snap there, Sóley builds music that is whimsical and haunting at once. Tracks like Kill the Clown and About a Funeral lean into eerie, cinematic territory, creating imagery that lingers well after the music fades. It’s an artful debut where every choice feels intentional, and one that rewards listeners who take the time to fully sink into its world.
