Music That Takes Me Places
“I’ve spent a lot of time with myself and my thoughts trying to dissect how I’m communicating with people and also talking to myself.” -Emily Nenni-
On Nenni’s new album, Movin’ Shoes, she looks at how people communicate with each other and with themselves. This idea comes through in the title track’s call to dress and dance on your own terms, and in “Livin’ in Shame,” where self reflection sharpens into something more direct. Across the album, Nenni keeps things loose and rhythmic with warm keys, pedal steel guitar, and steady grooves as she pulls from honky tonk, soul, southern rock, and outlaw country. It is an album I had been looking forward to hearing for months, and it delivers.
