The Loving Paupers are a Washington, D.C.–based reggae/dub collective formed in 2015. Their music is rooted in the tradition of roots reggae, but it stretches into lovers rock, dub, and even 60s pop-inspired melodies. Rather than sticking strictly to one style, they create a dreamy, modern take on reggae that balances deep basslines and hypnotic rhythms with airy harmonies and soul-leaning vocals. It’s not pure roots reggae in the classic sense, but their sound clearly draws from that foundation while opening the door to something more expansive and cinematic.
