Crookes Joy Crookes dazzles on her debut album Skin with a blend of modern soul, jazz, R&B, and pop, carried by her rich voice and sharp songwriting. At 23, she draws on songs written between the ages of 15 and 21, exploring identity, heartbreak, generational trauma, and mental health. Much of the album was recorded at London’s revered Konk Studios, with sweeping string arrangements tracked at Abbey Road’s Studio Two by an 18-piece ensemble. The record shifts between lush ballads and smoky grooves, delivered with the assurance of an artist far beyond her years.
