Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist Erik Hall has long moved between projects and roles, from playing drums in NOMO to engineering and producing for other artists. Wanting to create something more personal and self-contained, he created In Tall Buildings, a project where he could write, perform, and record everything himself. With Akinetic, his third album under the name, Hall shapes songs from meticulously placed layers of guitars, synths, and loops that drift with patience, letting details slowly surface while his understated vocals rest inside the mix, giving the record a delicate and hushed tone. The result is music that feels unhurried and deeply engaging. More than a musician layering sounds, Hall comes across as an architect of mood, quietly building an album that is absorbing.
